Founded by three women determined to transform the way we think about careers in and outside of higher education.

Our Mission

When graduate students begin to explore career options beyond academia, they often do so under the cover of darkness! There is a lot of negative stigma around leaving the academy.

“What if my advisor finds out?”

“Have I failed myself?”

“Will the institution stop investing in me?”

“Will my advisor or my program know how to guide me?”

Exploring the many career options available to you with a graduate degree–both academic and nonacademic–is natural and normal! Our goal at Next Draft LLC is to create a supportive mentoring environment for graduate students to explore these issues. From destigmatizing career diversity to linking students with industry mentors who have successfully transitioned (and found happiness) in their careers, we seek to support students in these critical decisions. We also work with faculty to help them understand how best to guide their students in the current hiring environment.

Next Draft LLC differs from other consulting groups in that we do not contract or charge individual students. Having been there ourselves, we understand that graduate students are already in a precarious situation. Asking students to shell out more money on top of their (expensive) degree for needed guidance seemed unreasonable. Instead, we tackle the issue head-on by contracting directly with universities, programs, and departments to help students think creatively and holistically about their path ahead.
